Collecting data
Filling in the questionnaire
Engineering Center “Diagnostics” requests specific technical data, geographic and environmental information on the pipeline, as well as hydrological conditions to decide on the possibility of non-contact diagnostics implementation, choosing a strategy and tactics of the survey and issuing a commercial offer.
The data received from the Customer (steel grade, pressure, diameter, depth, presence of repair structures, tie-ins, intersections with other pipelines, etc.) is also used to determine the nature of the defect.
If the Questionnaire is not completed or incomplete information is provided, the reliability of the forecast may decrease, up to completely impassibleness to distinguish the types of damage.

Field procedure
The pipeline survey is usually carried out by a team, consisting of 2 to 4 people.
An NCM operator carrying GeoMag2 and a tablet moves along the target pipeline axis by feet or using a non-magnetic vehicle.
The registration and recording of the parameters of the target pipeline magnetic field are done automatically and do not require any additional manipulations of the operator.
Magnetometric sensors accompanied with electrometric components allow us performing accurate tracing of the line and accessing the insulation coating state. Combination of two systems in one device guarantees accurate identification of the most damaged pipeline areas.

The magnetic field of the pipeline is displayed in a real time mode at the monitor of the operator’s tablet as a magnetogram. The software of geoMag2 allows him to make comments and mark critical points on the traversed route "on-the-go" throughout the course of the field survey and this option significantly increases the accuracy of the analysis.
The presence of power lines, electrical cables, etc. near to the pipeline does not affect the quality of magnetometric diagnostics. Also, the environment of the pipeline does not have any effect - clay, sand, crushed stone, concrete, etc. The speed of the field survey is determined by the complexity of the pipeline route (desert, steppe, jungle, swamp, bushes) and can reach 10 km per day.

Express analysis
Swift identification of accident-prone zones
Preliminary data analysis without thorough mathematical processing is applied for a quick identification of the most standing out anomalies of the pipeline's magnetic field. If required, such an express analysis of a section up to 10 km length can be carried out in-situ. The main purpose of prompt data analysis on the site is to select the locations for a reconnaissance excavation.
More thorough express-analysis can be provided to the customer in 1-2 days after the field survey.
The table of anomalies usually the following:
More thorough express-analysis can be provided to the customer in 1-2 days after the field survey.
- We use our unique software
- We do the analysis at the site (hotel, camp, etc.)
- We provide a Table of anomalies
The table of anomalies usually the following:
- The pipeline name
- Length and GPS-coordinates of magnetic anomalies zones
- Areas with insulation coating damage
- Absolute geographical GPS coordinates of control points of the route
- Identifying of areas where the inspection appeared to be impossible (for any reason)
Data verification
Minimum excavation required
The express-analysis of the received data reasonably allows our experts to select the places for a reconnaissance excavation. Such verification pits allow us to compare factual defects with magnetic anomalies registered during the non-contact magnetometric inspection.
We select 2-3 points on the surveyed pipeline route with present magnetic field anomalies of different level.
The anomalies are selected under the principal: 1 anomaly with the utmost magnetic readings and other anomalies of the most typical level for the particular pipeline, the most typical for this pipeline and we do contact NDT namely at these points.

The data obtained as a result of the Additional Flaw detecting Tests (AFDT) is considered basic for the surveyed pipeline and acts as a basis for the interpretation of the rest identified anomalies.

Final report
Detailed analysis at breakneck speed
A Final Report is done in the Analytical Center of EC “Diagnostics” in Saint-Petersburg (Russia).
In a Final Report we analyze all the available data including magnetometric data and data obtained during the AFDT and examination of the pipeline documentation are considered and compared.
Depending on an overall condition of inspected pipeline we prepare recommendations on activities required for safe exploitation of the object.
Usually a Final Report includes the following:
2. Local Damage (LD)
3. Combination of defects (LD+SDS)

Depending on an overall condition of inspected pipeline we prepare recommendations on activities required for safe exploitation of the object.
Usually a Final Report includes the following:
- Coordinates of anomalies and distances from the anomaly to the starting point
- Illustrations of the magnetic field state (magnetograms)
- Description of a probable nature of the defects:
2. Local Damage (LD)
3. Combination of defects (LD+SDS)
- Comparison of data with previous surveys
- Identifications of the certain area requiring immediate reaction, if any
- Google Map with consistent markings
- Photos from the site
- Graphs and diagrams
- Calculation of residual resource according to AFDT data
- Recommendations for the safe operation of the facility
Identified defects are ranked according to the danger degree
Priority-3, safe zone
Priority-2, caution zone
Priority-1, unsafe zone
